genetic testing at birth.
My diagnosis came as a result of: emergency surgery due to tonsillitis.
They said I had very big clots, but none would hold.
So after an extended stay at AGH .
My mother took me to a hematologist after a follow up visit with the EENT.
In which she told him, that it takes a long time for my blood to clot up after an injury where I bit my tongue produced a large Hematoma.
The Hematologist and diagnosed me
As a mild hemophiliac
at birth circumcision
I was diagnosed when I was just starting 9th grade (about 15 years old.) when I went to have surgery to have my Tonsils removed. They did bloodwork a few days before hand. And when I was all preped for the surgery (I.V. and everything was ready, they were just about to give me the medication to pass out.) when the doctor came in the room saying that he needed to do more bloodwork because something was wrong with the first test. when those results came back they found out i have type 1 VonWillebrands, and sent me to a specialist.
Although I suffered instances of excessive bleeding as a child the diagnosis was not made until I was 47. Incredibly lucky as I am a Vietnam veteran. Had an angel on my shoulder.
