Symptoms I didn't expect? I've seen most everything our bleeding disorders can throw at us from birth to death, including joint destruction and viral contamination of the blood supply with tragic consequences for so many, but was surprised to learn many of us may also be diagnosed with osteoporosis for some reason (including me). I've seen the development of clotting factor (blood derived, genetically-engineered factor, and synthetics like Hemlibra), wheelchair-accessible buildings, federal and state laws protecting those of us who need such, and even more revolutionary developments in treatment such as gene therapy (which was first promised decades ago). Many of you are new to our community, so I hope to offer some historical background on occasion, while praying I don't scare you too much.

Let me give you some history. My dad’s mom died in childbirth and he didn’t even know he had VWBD until he told his dentist at the age of 65+ that he bled easily before he had a tooth extracted. Turns out that after he was tested he was found to have VWBD. My older sisters and I were also tested. We all tested positive for the disease. I have always had heavy periods, bruised easily and had nose bleeds that would last for hours. I had my tonsils out in 6th grade and a week later started hemorrhaging. This was before we knew we had VWBD. Had emergency surgery to cauterize my throat. When I was in my early 20’s i had a cyst removed from my sinus. Again after 1 week I started hemorrhaging and lost 2 pints of blood. I was in the hospital for almost a week. Again this was before I knew I had VWBD. Before surgery I receive DDAVP which allows my blood to clot. Anyway hope that helps answer your question.

At over 60 - I used to get a lot of nose bleeds - Doctors got my blood pressure down - End of nose bleeds.
At this age I do bruise easily. Doctors say it is mostly old age, and if I see my family and friends of the same age and older, they do bruise easily as well.

Oh no …… have you ever been tested for VWBD? I at the age of 60 still bruise easy, bleed profusely if cut and once in a while have a bloody nose.

As a child I had multiple bloody noses, bruised easily and my periods were terrible, they lasted for 2 weeks and would start up again a week later. It was awful. I was 28 had a bleeding ulcer, I had cysts on my ovaries that were bleeding and had to have a blood transfusion. It was terrifying.
